CONVERSATION - THE WAY TO COMMUNITY
HOW WE TALK
We all want to bring the members of that portion of God's family that He has
entrusted to us to be one with Him and with each other. Much has been written
and preached of the importance of being of one mind with Him and among
ourselves.
Twenty
years ago our church began to recognize the importance, and even the mandate,
of improving all aspects of communication. Are we truly all of one mind as
directed by Paul? Do we agree on what the Lord is wanting to do in our flock?
We
made our typical Sunday evening service into a time of collective conversation
to determine God's will in our work.
We
actually spent several years in this effort to attempt to be one in spirit and
direction. The result of this is that we have been rewarded in several ways.
1 - By practice we do recognize similar direction and purpose
2 - As a tool to allow better communication, we developed a system built on a
variation of common email, which allows any member
to easily communicate any thought or idea to all members, an individual, or a specified group of members.
3 - We have been encouraged and guided by a series of books by the author,
C.Christopher Smith - (the latest of which is "How the Body
of Christ Talks"). This and all his books on this topic are available via Amazon
and many other sources. (See the reference in FAQs page).
As a result of our email system we have, in essence, a
continual meeting of minds, documented, without the need to wait for a scheduled
meeting - or even upon chance conversations as members might happen to meet.
Ideas can be shared with rapid exchange of thoughts. So that when the opportunity
arises, a base has been built for easier continuing conversation.
These are what our first email conversations have grown into:

Communication on any topic - (as in any email)

Official news

General discussion

Conversation of challenges as they are encountered

Notifications

Future events

Reports

Financial

Meeting minutes

Common daily things (free bike, baby mattress needed)

Help needed
We are to the point when not only do we know the benefit of communication of all kinds but know that without this electronic version of discussion we would not be able to do the work set before us as effectively and efficiently as we do.
